Final Result
Materials
• 1 x 50g ball ‘Moda Vera’ Cicogna or yarn of choice
• 7 x 25mm round wooden beads
• 10 x 20mm round wooden beads
• 40 small red sequins
• 60 small silver sequins
• 100 small glass beads
• 18 round silver beads
• beading wire
• silver toggle clasp
• acrylic paint (colour to match the yarn)
• double-sided tape
• earring wires (optional)
• 2 small crimp beads
• 2 jump rings
• 2 head pins
• tapestry needle
• jewellery piers
• wire cutters
• beading needle & thread
• scissors
• paint brush
Step 1
Paint the wooden beads for the necklace and optional earrings. We used seven 25mm beads and eight 20mm beads for the necklace and two small beads for the earrings. When the beads are dry, cover each with double-sided tape.
Step 2
Take a length of yarn, thread it through a tapestry needle and pull the needle and wool once through the first bead leaving a tail of about 10cm coming from the hole in the bead. Peel the backing paper from the double-sided tape then wrap the yarn attached to the needle firmly around the bead in circles using the adhesive to stick it in place to ensure that it covers the bead. Finish by passing the needle through the hole in the bead two or three times and wrap the yarn around the bead crossing over the first wrapping. Knot the loose ends to secure and trim the ends. Repeat until all the beads are covered.
Step 3
Thread a fine beading needle with cotton thread and attach to the yarn covering the first bead. Thread a silver sequin onto the needle, add a small glass bead and then thread the cotton thread back through the hole in the sequin. Stitch to affix the sequin and the bead to the yarn. Work three sequin/glass bead combinations around the top of the yarn covered bead. Work three more sequin/glass bead combinations around the middle of the yarn covered bead filling the gaps between the first set of sequins - this time use red sequins. Work three final combinations around the bottom of the bead using silver sequins. Repeat the process for all the large beads. The smaller beads are unadorned.
Step 4
Using a crimp bead, attach one end of the clasp to a length of beading wire. Thread one silver round bead, one small yarn bead, one silver bead and one small yarn bead until four of the smaller yarn beads are threaded. Continue threading the seven larger beads alternating each with a silver bead and finish with four more small yarn beads alternating these with silver beads too. Thread a crimp bead onto the beading wire, loop the beading wire through the clasp and pass it back through the crimp bead. Close the crimp bead to secure the clasp and trim the ends of the beading wire.

Handy Hint
To make earrings, take a headpin and thread on one small glass bead, one silver round bead, one small yarn bead & one silver round bead. Trim the headpin to leave 7mm at the top & use jewellery pliers to make this into a small loop. Use a jump ring to attach the loop to an earring wire. Repeat to make the second earring.
