Taggie Blankets

By Roo

Created by an early childhood educator and mom, Taggies are based on the idea that babies and kids love to rub satin edges, clothing labels and tags. Focused on the “whole child”, Taggies enhance early childhood emotional well being, growth, and sense of security by providing tactile and visually stimulating features that both soothe and entertain. Children interact with, explore and enjoy a generous assortment of printed and textured tags, creating in them a true sense of good feeling, positive adjustment and overall happiness. Contributing to a lifetime foundation of healthy development, "interactive” Taggies nurture with comfort, activity and fun! (http://www.taggies.com/whatisataggie.html)

Materials
2 different fabrics (2 different textures work well, fleece, cordroy, flannel, cotton etc). A good time to use up any scrap material around the place.

Ribbon of any kind and size. A good chance to use up any scrap ribbon around the place.

Thread

Sewing machine
Step 1
Cut a 30cm x 30cm square out of the 2 fabrics.

Cut your ribbon into different lengths. I cut mine about 6 - 8 cm. Fold them in half to get an idea of how far they will stick out of the blanket. You don't want them too long or they could be a hazard for your baby.

You will need at least 16 pieces of ribbon.
Step 2
Line up right sides of fabric together. Fold the ribbon in half and tuck the folded end inside the 2 fabrics.
Step 3
Leave one corner unpinned to sew a long, wide ribbon for a handle after the other sides are sewn. Sew the other 3 sides up to the handle corner, removing each pin as you get to it and making sure the ribbons are straight.
Step 4
Turn the fabric inside out, tuck in the 4th corner, insert the final ribbon and sew around the entire blanket to give a border and to close up the corner.

    • These have gone down really well with Mr. 3 months. At this age it is really hard for him to play with toys, so something as simple as these supplies a lot of entertainment.
