Pyramid purse - overlapped opening
By justdunny
- Small purse in a pyramid shape with an opening that overlaps so it doesn't require a zip or other fastening.
Adapted from a pyramid purse with zip on this site. Sorry it's a bit rough! I just made up a prototype and it worked out so well, had to share! - Final Result

- Materials
- Heavy fabric for outer - 40 cm x 16 cm (or any desired size as long as is two and a half times longer than it is wide).
Fabric for lining - same dimensions.
Scrap strip, binding or cord for handle. - Step 1
- Measure in 4 cm from each corner on long side. (If another size, this is a quarter of the width.) Draw a guideline from that mark to the next corner on the short side. You should have a long narrow triangle on each side. Cut along this line on each side.

- Step 2
- Cut lining to match. Place right sides together and stitch along the edges you have just cut only.
Turn right side out and press.Top-stitch if desired. - Step 3
- Make your loop for handle. Place the ends of the handle about 1 cm from one corner on the short side with handle into the body of purse. Pin or baste in place. Fold purse in half matching corners of short and long sides. Stitch the short side. I suggest reinforcing the handle by overstitching.
- Step 4
- The next seam will be perpendicular to the seam on the short side. Find and mark the centre of the long side. Measure and mark 8 cm either side from the centre mark. Fold each side in on those two marks, overlapping the flaps. Stitch seam, reinforcing at edges of flaps. Take care not to catch in the handle.
- Step 5
- Turn right side out. I suspect even small items will not fall out of the purse if it's kept fairly upright!
