Here’s a chance to pull out the pliers when you create a gorgeous desk or bench top accessory.
Final Result
Materials
• post it note pad 7.5cm x 7.5cm
• lightweight chipboard or heavy cardstock
• decorative paper
• PVA glue
• bone folder
• 22 gauge wire
• 24 gauge wire
• small pencil (like a golf scoring pencil)
• pliers
• wire cutters
• paint
• metal ruler
• craft knife & cutting mat
• clear sealer (optional)
• brushes for paint & glue
Step 1
Cut a piece of chipboard 8cm x 26cm. Using the bone folder, lightly score a line 8cm in from both ends and then another 1cm in from each of the scored lines. There should be an 8cm x 8cm square remaining in the centre. Draw a line from the top of the first scored line on the left to the bottom left corner of the card, dividing the first square in half diagonally. Repeat for the right-hand side on the same diagonal, from the top right hand edge of the card to the bottom of the scored line. Place on the cutting mat and using the metal ruler and craft knife cut along the pencil lines.
Step 2
Cut the decorative paper 1cm larger than the chipboard shape all around then using the PVA glue adhere the chipboard in the centre of the paper, fold the edges to the other side and glue in place. Re-score the lines a little firmer now and fold the paper covered chipboard along the scored lines. Cut some decorative paper to cover the inside of the cover leaving a small border all around and glue in place. For a glossy finish paint on a coat of the clear sealer and set aside to dry. When dry glue the post-it notepad in place.
Step 3
To create the closure cut 3 x 25cm lengths of the 22 gauge wire. Wrap all three wires around the pencil then twist the wires together tightly enough to hold the pencil in place but not so tight that the pencil can’t be removed. Lay the wires out on one side of the cover with the loop in the centre. Use the pliers to create interesting coils and loops with the remaining wire ends then cut off any excess wire with the cutters. To secure the 3 ends together wrap with a small amount of the 24 gauge wire. Repeat for the other side of the cover then attach to the cover with a small amount of PVA glue. Decorate the pencil if desired and place through the loops to close the cover.
