Step 1

1st row: P8, C4B, P8.
2nd row: K8, P4, K8.
3rd row: P6, T4B, T4F, P6.

5th row: P4, C4B, P4, C4F, P4.
6th row: (K4, P4) twice, K4.
7th row: P2, (T4B, T4F) twice, P2.
8th row: K2, P2, K4, P4, K4, P2, K2.
9th row: P2, K2, P4, C4B, P4, K2, P2.
10th row: As 8th row.
11th row: P2, C4F, T4B, T4F, C4B, P2.

Step 2
Back
Using 4.00mm needles, cast on 90 (94-98-106-110) sts.
1st row: * K2, P2, rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.
2nd row: * P2, K2, rep from * to last 2 sts, P2. Rep last 2 rows 5 (8-8-11-11) times, dec 2 (2-0-2-0) sts evenly across last row ... 88 (92-98-104-110) sts, 12 (18-18-24-24) rows rib in all.

Beg Panel Patt 1st row: K14 (16-18-21-23), work 1st row of panel across next 20 sts from or written instructions, K20 (20-22-22-24), work 1st row of panel across next 20 sts, K14 (16- 18-21-23).
2nd row: P14 (16-18-21-23), work 2nd row of panel across next 20 sts, P20 (20-22- 22-24), work 2nd row of panel across next 20 sts, P14 (16-18-21-23).
Work a further 34 rows, working rows 3 to 36 incl of panel as placed in last 2 rows. Last 36 rows form patt. Cont in patt until Back measures 22 (26-29-31-33) cm from beg, working last row on wrong side.
Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark row for beg of front neck shap- ing.
Work a further 24 (34-40-40-44) rows patt.

Shape Armholes Keeping patt correct, cast off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows ... 84 (88-94-100-106) sts.
Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 76 (78-84-88-94) sts rem.
Work 31 (31-35-39-41) rows patt (without further dec).

Shape Shoulders Cast off 9 (10-10-11-12) sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 10 (9-11-11-11) sts at beg of foll 2 rows. Cast off rem 20 (20-22-22-24) sts.
Step 3
Pocket Linings (Make 2)
Using 4.00mm needles, cast on 20 sts.
Work 16 rows stocking st, inc 2 sts evenly across last row ... 22 sts.
Next row: K1, work 23rd row of panel across next 20 sts, K1.
Next row: P1, work 24th row of panel across next 20 sts, P1.
Next row: K1, work 25th row of panel across next 20 sts, K1. Leave sts on a stitch-holder.
Step 4
Left Front
Using 4.00mm needles, cast on 47 (51-55-59-63) sts.
1st row: * K2, P2, rep from * to last 3 sts, K3.
2nd row: P3, * K2, P2, rep from * to end. Rep last 2 rows 5 (8-8-11-11) times, inc (inc-inc-dec-dec) one st evenly across last row ... 48 (52-56-58-62) sts, 12 (18-18-24-24) rows rib in all.

Beg Panel Patt 1st row: K14 (16-18-21-23), work 1st row of panel across next 20 sts from Graph or written instructions, K7 (7-7-6-6), turn. Leave rem 7 (9-11-11-13) sts on a safety pin or thread for front band.
2nd row: Cast on one seam st, P8 (8-8-7-7), work 2nd row of panel across next 20 sts, P14 (16-18-21-23) ... 42 (44-46-48-50) sts. Work 16 rows, working rows 3 to 18 incl of panel as placed in last 2 rows.
Place Pocket Next row: K13 (15-17-20-22), (K2, P2) 5 times, knit to end.
Next row: P7 (7-7-6-6), (P2, K2) 5 times, purl to end. Rep last 2 rows twice.
Next row: K13 (15-17-20-22), cast off next 22 sts, knit to end.
Next row: P7 (7-7-6-6), holding pocket lining at front of work (wrong side facing), work across 1st pocket lining stitch-holder as folls – P1, work 26th row of panel across next 20 sts, P1, then P13 (15-17-20-22). Cont in patt until Left Front measures same as Back to coloured threads, working last row on wrong side.
Shape Front Slope Keeping patt correct, dec one st at end of next row, then in every foll 8th (10th-12th- 14th-14th) row until 39 (40-42-45-46) sts rem. Work 7 (3-3-11-1) rows patt (without further dec).
Shape Armhole Keeping patt correct, cast off 2 sts at beg of next row ... 37 (38-40-43-44) sts. Shape Shoulder Cast off 9 (10-10-11-12) sts at beg of next row and foll alt row. Work 1 row. Cast off rem 10 (9-11-11-11) sts.
Step 5
Right Front
Using 4.00mm needles, cast on 47 (51-55-59-63) sts.
1st row: K3, * P2, K2, rep from * end.
2nd row: * P2, K2, rep from * to last 3 sts, P3.
3rd row: K3, P2tog, yon (to make a stitch), K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end ... 1st buttonhole.
4th row: * P2, K2, rep from * to last 3 sts, P3. Rep 1st and 2nd rows 4 (7-7-10-10) times, inc (inc-inc-dec-dec) one st evenly across last row ... 48 (52-56-58-62) sts, 12 (18-18-24-24) rows rib in all.

Beg Panel Patt 1st row: Rib 7 (9-11-11-13), slip these 7 (9-11-11-13) sts onto a safety pin or thread for front band, cast on one seam st, K8 (8-8-7-7), work 1st row of panel across next 20 sts from Graph or written instructions, K14 (16-18-21-23) ... 42 (44-46-48-50) sts.

Step 6
Sleeves
Using 4.00mm needles, cast on 42 (46-46-50-50) sts. Work 12 (18-18-24-24) rows rib as given for Back, dec 0 (2-0-2-0) sts evenly across last row ... 42 (44-46-48-50) sts.
Beg Patt 1st row: K11 (12-13-14-15), work 1st row of panel across next 20 sts from Graph or written instructions, K11 (12-13-14-15).
2nd row: P11 (12-13-14-15), work 2nd row of panel across next 20 sts, P11 (12-13- 14-15).
3rd row: K2, M1, K9 (10-11-12-13), work 3rd row of panel across next 20 sts, K9 (10-11-12-13), M1, K2 ... 44 (46-48-50-52) sts. Working patt as placed in last 3 rows, inc one st (as before) at each end of every foll 6th (6th-6th-4th-4th) row until there are 58 (62-68-58-62) sts, then in every foll 8th (8th-8th-6th-6th) row until there are 60 (64-70-78-82) sts. Cont in patt (without further inc) until Sleeve measures 23 (28-33-38-40) cm from beg, working last row on wrong side.
Shape Top Keeping patt correct, cast off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows ... 56 (60-66-74-78) sts. Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 48 (50-56-62-66) sts rem. Work 1 row. Cast off 5 (6-7-8-8) sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 6 (5-6-7-9) sts at beg of foll 2 rows. Cast off rem 16 sts.
Step 7
Left Front Band
With right side facing, using 4.00mm needles, join yarn to sts on safety pin or thread for left front band.
1st row: Cast on one seam st, K0 (1-0-0-1), P1 (2-1-1-2), (K2, P2) 1 (1-2-2-2) times, K3 ... 8 (10-12-12-14) sts.
2nd row: P3, (K2, P2) 1 (1-2-2-2) times, K1 (2-1-1-2), P0 (1-0-0-1).
3rd row: K0 (1-0-0-1), P1 (2-1-1-2), (K2, P2) 1 (1-2-2-2) times, K3. Rep last 2 rows until band is length required to fit (slightly stretched) evenly along left front edge and across back neck to centre back neck. Cast off in rib.
Step 8
Right Front Band
With wrong side facing, using 4.00mm needles, join yarn to sts on safety pin or thread for right front band.
1st row: Cast on one seam st, P0 (1-0-0-1), K1 (2-1-1-2), (P2, K2) 1 (1-2-2-2) times, P3 ... 8 (10-12-12-14) sts.
2nd row: K3, (P2, K2) 1 (1-2-2-2) times, P1 (2-1-1-2), K0 (1-0-0-1).
3rd row: P0 (1-0-0-1), K1 (2-1-1-2), (P2, K2) 1 (1-2-2-2) times, P3. Rep 2nd and 3rd rows 3 (2-4-2-3) times.
Buttonhole row: K3, P2tog, yon (to make a stitch), K2, (P2, K2) 0 (0-1-1-1) times, P1 (2-1-1-2), K0 (1-0-0-1) ... 2nd buttonhole. Rep 3rd row once, then 2nd and 3rd rows 9 (11-13-14-15) times. Rep last 20 (24-28-30-32) rows once, then buttonhole row ... 4 buttonholes in all. Cont in rib until band is length required to fit (slightly stretched) evenly along right front edge and across back neck to centre back neck. Cast off in rib.
Step 9
To Make Up
Join shoulder seams. Placing centre of sleeve to shoulder seam, sew in sleeves evenly. Join side and sleeve seams. Sew pocket linings in position. Join front bands at centre back and sew in position. Sew on buttons.
Note
Tension:
22 sts and 30 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 4.00mm needles. Check your tension carefully. If less sts use smaller needles, if more sts use bigger needles.
