1.5m Fabric A – Melody cream

Iron

All fabrics should be 100% cotton, washed & pressed.
¼" seam allowance used throughout unless otherwise indicated.
Read all instructions carefully before commencing the quilt.

CUTTING
All strips are cut across the width of fabric unless otherwise stated.
• From fabric A (melody cream) cut:
Six 8 7/8" strips, crosscut into 24 x 8 7/8" squares.
• From fabric B (butterflies pink) cut:.
Six 8 7/8" strips, crosscut into 24 x 8 7/8" squares.
• From fabric C (ditsy leaves gold) cut:
Five 3½" strips, crosscut into 48 x 3½" squares.
• From fabric D (tonal leaves pink) cut:
Eight 6½" strips, crosscut into 48 x 6½" squares.

Seven 1½" strips for inner borders.
Seven 2½" strips for binding.

• From fabric E (melody gold) cut:
Six 4½" strips, crosscut into 48 x 4½" squares.
Eight 6½" strips for outer border.

Step 1

Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of one 8 7/8" fabric A square and place right sides together, with an 8 7/8" fabric B square. Sew a ¼" away from the marked line on both sides (diagram 1). Cut apart on the marked line (diagram 2) to make two half-square triangle units (diagram 3). Press seams toward the fabric B triangles (diagram 3). Repeat to make a total of 48 x 8½" A/B half-square triangle units.

Step 2

Place a 3 1/2” fabric C square on the fabric A corner of one A/B half-square triangle unit (diagram 4). Sew across the diagonal of the smaller square from the upper right to lower left corner. Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim the excess fabric leaving a 1/4” seam allowance.

Step 3

Place one 6 1/2” fabric D square on the fabric B corner of the A/B half-square triangle unit (diagram 5). Sew across the diagonal of the smaller square from the upper right to lower left corner. Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim the excess fabric leaving a 1/4” seam allowance.

Step 4

Place one 4 1/2” fabric E square on the fabric B/D corner of the A/B half-square triangle unit (diagram 6). Sew across the diagonal of the smaller square from the upper right to lower left corner. Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim the excess fabric leaving a 1/4” seam allowance.

Step 5

Repeat Steps 2-4 to make 48 x 8 1/2” blocks in total (diagram 7).

Step 6

Refer to the quilt photo for block orientation to lay out six blocks for each of the eight horizontal rows.

Step 7

Sew the blocks in each row together; press the seams in each in the opposite direction to row before. Sew the rows together; press the seams in one direction.

Step 8

Trim selvages from the 1 1/2” fabric D inner border strips. Sew 4 strips together end to end in pairs and sew one of these strips to each side of the quilt, press and trim off any excess fabric. From the 3 remaining strips, cut one strip in half and join half to each of the remaining 2 strips. Sew these strips to top and bottom of the quilt, press and trim off any excess fabric.

Step 9

Trim selvages from the 6 1/2” fabric E outer border strips. Sew the strips together end to end in pairs. Cut 2 x 66 1/2” and 2 x 62 1/2” lengths (if your measurements are different, cut to fit your quilt top). Sew the longer lengths to the right and left sides of the quilt top then the shorter lengths to the top and bottom to complete the quilt top.

Step 10

Layer the completed quilt top with batting and backing and quilt as desired. Bind the finished quilt using the 2 1/2” fabric D strips. Attach a label or sign and date your quilt.
