Step 1

Row 2: sl st into 1-ch lp, 4ch, 1tr in same lp, 1ch, shell in next lp, 1ch, v-st in last lp, turn.
Row 3: sl st into 1-ch lp, 4ch, 1tr in same lp, (1ch, 1tr in next 1-ch sp) twice, 1ch, shell in next lp, (1ch, 1tr in next 1-ch sp) twice, 1ch, v-st in last lp, turn.
Row 4: sl st into 1-ch lp, 4ch, 1tr in same lp, (1ch, 1tr in next 1-ch sp) 4 times, 1ch, shell in next lp, (1ch, 1tr in next 1-ch sp) 4 times, 1ch, v-st in last lp, turn.

Magic Circle (used when you want a tight circle with no hole in the middle) = wrap yarn twice around your finger & work a sl st into the lp, slip the lp off your finger and work the first round into the ring (over the two strands), pull the yarn tail to tighten the loop to create an invisible centre.
