Materials

Fabrics are from ‘Icon Cotton’ linen range
- 50cm Printed icon fabric - Paris, Rome, London, New York
- 30cm Natural cotton linen fabric
- 30cm Red & blue homespun
- Gu?termann 100% cotton thread - natural, blue & red
- Vliesofix
- Scissors
- Small sharp embroidery scissors
- Pins
- Iron
- Sewing machine
- Size 14 cushion insert (36x36cm)

Step 1

For the back cut two 30x40cm pieces of icon fabric.
Along one 40cm long edge of each of the two smaller pieces, press under 1cm then another 1cm and topstitch. Set aside.

Step 2

Silhouette appliqué front

Enlarge the icon to desired size. Trace pattern onto the paper side of the vliesofix then cut out leaving an extra 5cm around the edge. Iron onto the wrong side of the homespun then cut out the icon using sharp scissors. Use the small embroidery scissors to cut out the windows on the London bus and centre of the Eiffel Tower. Remove the backing paper from the icon.

Step 3

Allowing for a 1cm seam allowance cut a piece of the natural fabric slightly larger on all sides than the icon (refer to photo). Centre the icon on the fabric and fuse in place using the iron. Zigzag around the icon using matching thread.

Step 4

Cut two 10cm strips by the width of the icon block and sew to top and bottom edges of the icon block. Cut two 10x40cm long strips of icon fabric and sew to the sides of the icon block, including top and bottom strips. Trim cushion front to a 40x40cm square.

Step 5

With front right side up place one back piece face down with raw edges aligned at top and sides and hemmed edge across the centre. Place remaining back piece face down on top aligning raw edges at bottom and sides with centre edge overlapping. Pin then sew together on all four sides using 2cm seam allowance. Trim corners, turn through to right side and press. Place insert into cushion cover with back edges overlapping
