How to - Fusible binding
By Spotlight
- A fusible binding is perfect for display pieces such as wall hangings that will not receive the wear & tear that bed quilts do & it’s easy and fast to make.
- Materials
- • fabric for binding
• Vliesofix or other fusible web
• rotary cutter (wavy blade is optional)
• cutting mat
• quilting ruler
• iron & ironing board
• baking paper or appliqué mat
• optional - old sheet - Step 1
- Select the fabric for the binding and cut into strips approx 2”- 2½” wide x length required for binding. Cut Vliesofix (fusible web) into strips same as fabric.

- Step 2
- Protect ironing board with baking paper or an old sheet. Place fabric strip wrong side up on the ironing board. Place Vliesofix strip paper side up on the fabric strip. tip: Even though you are ironing on the paper side of the Vliesofix it is a good idea to cover with baking paper or appliqué mat to prevent webbing sticking to the iron. Using iron fuse Vliesofix to the fabric strip.

- Step 3
- Peel off paper backing.

- Step 4
- Trim one side of the strip either straight edge or wavy for a decorative edge. Place the ruler at 1½” - 2” (in the middle of the waves) to trim the other side for a 1½” - 2” wide strip of fusible binding.

- Step 5
- Fuse a strip to the edge on the right side.

- Step 6
- (front view)

- Step 7

- Step 8
