- Materials
- • Brown or Tan felt
• A small piece of white felt
• Small amount of stuffing – (Hobbyfill – Polyfil etc)
• Black, White and Red embroidery thread
• White rickrack – mini is best
• Two buttons
• Fray stoppa
• Scissors - Step 1
- Cutting
Cut out template of the Gingerbread man and pin to felt.
Cut out one gingerbread man out of felt. I have cut one of each colour
- Step 2
- For the eyes cut two small circles out of the white felt and attach them to the gingerbread man using the black thread and one black French knot each.

- Step 3
- For the mouth use red thread and with backstitch sew a small circle for the mouth.
Sew buttons on with white embroidery thread–to make them look like boiled lollies sew from the button holes to the outside edge of the button.
Cut pieces of rickrack for trim on the arms and the leg, dab all the ends with fray stoppa
- Step 4
- Cut a rectangle as big as your gingerbread man out of felt.
Pin your decorated man to this rectangle.
Make a loop of rickrack and tuck it in between the layers on your gingerbread man’s head (to hang him from later).
Stitch by machine or by hand from A to B (all the way around the outside) close to the edge.
- Step 5
- Finishing
Cut around the outside of the gingerbread man. Use the hobbyfill to stuff the little guy but not too much.
Sew up the opening and hang your little guy up.
- Step 6
- Embroidery Stitches
1. French knot
Bring the floss out of the required position, hold the floss down with the thumb and encircle the needle two times.
Still holding the thread firmly with your thumb, pull up and gently allow a knot to form to desired size at the top of your fabric. Return your needle into the fabric back past your starting point and insert it. Pull gently as not to pull entire french knot through to the backside
- Step 7
- Embroidery Stitches
2. Back Stitch
Come up from under, one stitch ahead of the start point then bring your needle back to and into the start point.
Skip a stitch length underneath, come back up and go back through the last point you had previously come up. Continue following pattern.
