Materials
• A6 small hardcover notebook
• 20cm x 30cm green cotton fabric (to cover notebook)
• 9cm x 13cm piece of linen
• 20cm x 5mm wide green satin ribbon
• 80cm jute string
• scraps of assorted green cotton fabrics
• scraps of vliesofix
• olive green sewing thread
• spray adhesive
• PVA or craft glue
• sharp scissors
• sewing machine
Step 1
Spray the outside of the back and front cover of the notebook with spray adhesive. Spray the wrong side of 20cm x 30cm piece of green cotton fabric. Lay fabric right side down on a flat surface. Place the spine of notebook in the centre of fabric and ease fabric onto covers. Pick up notebook and smooth fabric across front and back covers to smooth out any bubbles.
Step 2
Spray the inside of the covers. Cut out the corners of the excess fabric stopping 1cm from edge of notebook. Stretch excess fabric over to the inside, folding and trimming fabric where necessary for a neat folded finish. Apply a thin coating of PVA glue to the first page of notebook and working from the spine, smooth first page over the inside front cover, covering all excess fabric.
Step 3
Open inside back cover and glue the centre of the length of string down the inside of the back cover 2cm in from right-hand edge. Apply a thin coating of PVA glue to the last page of notebook, and then from the spine, smooth last page over the inside back cover, covering all excess fabric and string.
Step 4
At the spine trim fabric 1cm from the edge. Open notebook and using PVA, glue excess fabric into the spine. Put some glue onto the end of satin ribbon and place down the inside of the spine at the top. Close notebook while glue is drying.
Step 5
Iron vliesofix onto back of green fabric scraps. Cut out small leaf shapes varying in size. Peel off backing paper and iron leaves onto linen fabric. Further secure leaves to linen by top stitching leaves and create a stem with stitching. Tie off thread ends at back of linen fabric.
Step 6
Attach linen to front of notebook with either spray adhesive or PVA glue. Tie string in a bow at front of notebook.
