Flower Garden Throw

This throw is made up of 25 floral squares. Each flower is worked separately and the green print square motif is added afterwards.
Each flower is made up of a sungold yellow centre, a plain coloured yarn for the 1st row of petals, a printed yarn (either baby or bright) for the middle petals, and a contrasting plain coloured yarn for the last row of petals; then the motif is added onto the flower.
Each motif is then joined together and a row of clusters worked around the outside for the border.

Step 1

Button Centered Flower
Rnd 1: Using sungold yarn work 3ch, 11tr into a magic circle, sl st into 3rd ch of st-ch.
Rnd 2: 2ch, 1htr in next st, (dec 2htr) 5 times, sl st into top of 1st htr.
Rnd 3: 1dc in same st, (2ch, 1dc in next st) 5 times, 2ch, sl st into 1st dc of round.
Rnd 4: Using plain colour yarn, sl st into 1st lp, *(1dc, 2ch, 4tr, 2ch, 1dc) in lp, repeat from * in each lp, 1ch, sl st around bp of row below.
Rnd 5: 1dc in same st, (3ch, bp 1dc around next dc of row below) 6 times, ending with a sl st into 1st dc of round.
Rnd 6: Using printed yarn, sl st into 1st lp, *(1dc, 2ch, 6tr, 2ch, 1dc) in lp, repeat from * in each lp, 1ch, sl st around bp of row below.
Rnd 7: 1dc in same st, (4 ch, bp 1dc around next dc of row below) 6 times, ending with a sl st into 1st dc of round.
Rnd 8: Using plain colour yarn, sl st into 1st lp, *(1dc, 2ch, 8tr, 2ch, 1dc) in lp, repeat from * in each lp, 1ch, sl st around bp of row below.
Rnd 9: 1dc in same st, (5ch, bp 1dc around next dc of row below) 6 times, ending with a sl st into 1st dc of round. Fasten off.

Step 2

Open Centered Flower
Rnd 1: Using sungold yarn work 1ch, 12dc into a magic circle, sl st into st-ch.
Rnd 2: 1dc in same st, (2ch, sk 1 dc, 1dc in next st) 5 times, 2ch, sl st into 1st dc of round.
Rnd 3: Using plain colour yarn, sl st into 1st lp, *(1dc, 1htr, 1tr, 2hdtr, 1tr, 1htr, 1dc) in lp, repeat from * in each lp, 1ch, sl st around bp of row below.
Rnd 4: 1dc in same st, (3ch, bp 1dc around next dc of row below) 6 times, ending with a sl st into 1st dc of round.

Take a flower and join printed green yarn with a sl st in one of the loops at the back.

Rnd 2: 1ch, (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) in same lp, *(3ch, sk 2 dc, 1dc in next tr) 3 times, 3ch, (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) in cnr lp, repeat from * twice, (3ch, sk 2 dc, 1dc in next dc) 3 times, 1ch, sk 2 tr, 1htr in 1st dc.
Rnd 3: 1dc in htr, 3ch, (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) in cnr lp, *(3ch, 1dc in next lp) 4 times, 3ch, (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) in cnr lp, repeat from * twice, (3ch, 1dc in next lp) 3 times, 1ch, 1htr in 1st dc.

Step 4

To Join
Hold two squares back to back and sl st into one corner of each square both together, then work 1dc in same st, 1ch, 1dc in 1st lp of front motif, 1ch, 1dc in 1st lp of back motif, 1ch, 1dc in 2nd lp of front motif, etc. until you have worked 1dc in last lp of back motif; 1ch, 1dc in cnr lp of both motifs together.
Pick up two more motifs and repeat until 2 lines of 5 motifs are joined together. Fasten off.
Hold the row of joined motifs horizontal ly in front of you with back facing, pick up another motif and holding it back to back with the one in your hand, join as per above instructions; continue until all 5 motifs have been connected with the others.
Repeat until you have 5 rows of 5 motifs all joined in horizontal lines.
Turn the throw around and repeat process for the vertical rows, remembering to sl st around the st joining the corners together.

Step 5

Border
Using printed yarn, join at corner with a sl st.
Rnd 1: (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) in same lp, * (3ch, 1dc in next lp) to end of row, (3ch, 1dc, 3ch, 1dc) in next cnr lp, repeat from * for all sides, ending with 1ch, 1htr into 1st dc of round.
Rnd 2: 1dc in htr, 3ch, (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) in same lp, * (3ch, 1dc in next lp) to end of side, (3ch, 1dc, 3ch, 1dc) in next cnr lp, repeat from * for all sides, ending with 1ch, 1htr into 1st dc of round.
Rnd 3: 1dc in htr, 3ch, (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) in same lp, * (3ch, 1dc in next lp) to end of side, (3ch, 1dc, 3ch, 1dc) in next cnr lp, repeat from * for all sides, ending with 1ch, 1htr into 1st dc of round.
Rnd 4: 1dc in htr, 3ch, (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) in same lp, * (3ch, 1dc in next lp) repeat to end of side, (3ch, 1dc, 3ch, 1dc) in next cnr lp, repeat from * for all sides, ending with 1ch, 1htr into 1st dc of round.
Rnd 5: 1dc in htr, 2ch, cluster in dc, *1dc into cnr lp, (4ch, 1dtr, 4ch, 1dc) 3 times in same lp, (2ch, cluster in last dc, 1dc into next lp) repeat to end of side, repeat from * for all sides finishing with 1dc into the same lp as 1st cluster. Fasten off and sew in all ends.
