- Final Result

- Materials
- • 20cm buckram (110cm wide)
• 20cm iron on pellon
• scraps of fabric
• Gütermann rayon thread - variegated & plain
• lace &/organza for pockets
• Vliesofix
• 20 small buttons
• hand needle
• scissors
• pins
• tape measure or ruler
• sewing machine
• iron & ironing board
• optional - rotary cutter, cutting mat & quilters ruler - Step 1
- Cut six 19cm x 13cm pieces of buckram and six pieces of the pellon each 19cm x 13cm. Iron one piece of pellon to one side of each piece of buckram.

- Step 2
- Tear or cut the scraps of fabric into various widths 19cm long. For the covers tear or cut one piece of fabric 19cm x 13cm. Lay the strips on the pellon side of the buckram pieces, slightly overlapping each over the next. Continue adding strips until the pellon is totally covered. The fabric adheres to the pellon but if desired use Vliesofix to fuse the strips in place.

- Step 3
- Using a zigzag stitch sew over the joins. Change to a straight stitch and sew rows of stitching across the piece on a slight angle. Repeat for four more pieces. Place the single piece of fabric over the pellon side of the last piece (use Vliesofix if desired) and sew rows of stitching across the piece on a slight angle.

- Step 4
- Cut each piece into two 8.5cm x 12cm pages including the cover piece.
Tip: Cutting is made easy using a rotary cutter, quilters ruler and cutting mat.
- Step 5
- Place organza over the top of the lace and zigzag along one edge. To create pockets on some pages position finished edge across the page (on an angle makes it more interesting) then stitch along the sides and bottom close to the edge.

- Step 6
- Arrange the pages in pairs, place buckram sides together and satin stitch the two pages together around all four sides.

- Step 7
- To create the tabs for joining the pages cut six pieces of fabric 9cm x 6cm. Apply Vliesofix to the wrong side of three pieces. Remove the backing paper and fuse the remaining pieces to each. Cut four 5cm x 2cm strips from each (total 12 strips).

- Step 8
- Fold each strip in half and press. Place ends 0.5cm over the spine edge and 2cm from the top/bottom edge. Satin stitch in place. Repeat for all tabs.

- Step 9
- Take the covers and stitch a button to the inside of the tabs only. Stitch a button to each side of the tabs on all remaining pages. Stack pages in order. Thread needle with a double thread and leaving a 4cm tail tie the end in a knot. Starting on the outside of the top front cover tab, pass the needle through the tab and one hole in the button on the inside, then through one hole of the buttons on the tab of the next page. Continue adding pages. At the back cover, go through the button to the outside then come back through the remaining holes in each button to the front. Repeat stitching through each button again to the front. Knot the tails together and trim ends.
