Cushion insert – 41cm square - Step 1
- Cut
From the cotton print fabric cut one 43cm x 43cm square for the front and two 30cm x 43cm pieces for the back. Sew a double hem along one 43cm long edge of each of the two smaller pieces by pressing under 1cm then another 1cm and stitching. - Step 2
- Appliqué
Heart - Draw a heart shape to fit inside a 23cm square and trace it onto the paper side of Vliesofix. Cut out the heart shape leaving an extra 3-4cm around the edge and iron (paper side up) to the wrong side of the silk dupion. When cool cut out the heart and remove the backing paper. Position the heart in the centre of the cushion front (43cm square) and fuse in place. Zigzag stitch around the outside edge of the heart using the rayon thread.
Love – Draw or print from a computer the letters L-O-V-E to be 10cm high. Cut out the letters and place face down onto the paper side of Vliesofix and trace. Iron to the wrong side of the silk dupion and when cool carefully cut out each letter. Remove the backing paper from the letters and arrange on the cushion front. Fuse in place then zigzag stitch around the outside edge of the letters using the rayon thread. - Step 3
- With front right side up, place one back piece face down with raw edges aligned at top and sides and hemmed edge across the centre. Place remaining back piece face down on top aligning raw edges at bottom and sides with centre edge overlapping. Pin then sew together on all four sides using 1.5cm seam allowance. Turn through to right side and press. Place insert into cushion cover with back edges overlapping.
- Handy Hint
- When using Vliesofix cover the ironing board and the project with baking paper or an appliqué may to prevent any glue adhering to the ironing board cover or the iron.
