Creating background papers
By Spotlight
- Inspired by Misty Mawn... we’ve tried our hand at creating background papers.
- Final Result

- Materials
- • watercolour paper
• acrylic paints – Jo Sonja, Folk Art, etc
• paint brushes
• palette
• masking tape
• scissors
• plastic table cover
• selection of stencils, stamps, cardboard, etc to use as tools
• optional - magazine pages - Step 1
- Place plastic cover onto table. Tape watercolour paper to the table cover using masking tape.

- Step 2
- Using a paint brush quickly apply paint to the paper in both a vertical and horizontal direction.

- Step 3
- Blot to remove some of the paint by covering with magazine pages or another sheet of watercolour paper. Rub the paper lightly and remove.

- Step 4
- Add more colours by dripping the paint onto the paper.

- Step 5
- Blot, scrape, stencil, print or stamp as desired.

- Step 6
- Continue building up layers of colour, removing the colour in some to reveal the underneath layer of paint as a design.
