'Cleckheaton' Country Kids Hat with Stalk

A cute woolen hat to match the 'Cleckheaton' Country Kids Cardigan.

Final Result

Materials

• Cleckheaton Country Kids 8 Ply 25g balls
• One set each of double-pointed 3.25mm (UK 10) and 4.00mm knitting needles or size needed to give correct tension.

Step 1

TENSION
22 sts and 30 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 4.00mm needles.

To work a 15 cm x 15 cm tension square, using 4.00mm needles, cast on 33 sts.

Work 44 rows stocking st. Cast off loosely.

Please check your tension carefully.

If less sts use smaller needles, if more sts use bigger needles.

Step 2

HAT
Using double-pointed 3.25mm needles, cast on 72 (80-88-96) sts.

Join to form a round, taking care not to twist cast-on edge.
Purl 3 rounds.
Change to double-pointed 4.00mm needles.
Work in stocking st (every round knit) until work measures 8 (9-10-12) cm from beg.

Step 3

SHAPE CROWN -
1st round - * K7 (8-9-10), K2tog, rep from * to end... 64 (72-80-88) sts.
2nd and foll alt rounds - Knit.
3rd round - * K6 (7-8-9), K2tog, rep from * to end... 56 (64-72-80) sts.
5th round - * K5 (6-7-8), K2tog, rep from * to end... 48 (56-64-72) sts.
7th round - * K4 (5-6-7), K2tog, rep from * to end... 40 (48-56-64) sts.

Cont dec in this manner, working one st less between each dec in very foll alt round until 16 sts rem.
Next round - * K2tog, rep from * to end... 8 sts.
Work 6 rounds for stalk.
Break off yarn, thread end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off
securely.
