- Materials
- • 50cm x 2 contrasting flannelette fabrics (4-patch squares)
• assorted flannelette fabric (solid squares)
• 1.5m fleecy for backing
• 16 x 1” (25mm) buttons
• matching Gütermann cotton thread
• basting spray
• rotary cutter, mat and quilters rulers
• quilting pins, tape measure
• scissors, seam ripper
• hand needle
• sewing machine with ¼” foot, darning/free-motion foot & walking foot - Step 1
- Cut 32 x 6½” squares from the assorted flannette fabrics.
- Step 2
- Cut 4 x 3½” strips from each of the contrasting flannelette fabrics. Sew strips together in pairs, one of each colour, along the length of the strip (diagram 1) and crosscut into 3½” lengths (diagram 2).
- Step 3
- Join the 3½” x 6½” rectangles from step 2 to create four-patch blocks as shown in diagram 3.

- Step 4
- Layout the 6½” squares from step 1 and the 6½” four-patch blocks from step 3 as shown in diagram 4. Join together in rows then sew the rows together matching the seams. To reduce bulk, sew rows together in pairs 1 to 2, 3 to 4, etc. Then sew the sections together.

- Step 5
- Lay the fleecy on the table and spray the wrong side with basting spray. Place the quilt top right side up on the fleecy and smooth out any wrinkles. Cut away any excess fleecy.
- Step 6
- Quilt as desired. Free-motion or meander stitch on the 6½” squares or stitch in the ditch.
- Step 7
- Sew the buttons in the centre o the four-patch blocks.
- Step 8
- Cut 2½” strips, all different lengths from the fabrics used for the solid squares and sew them together end to end to form the strip for the binding. When the strip is long enough to go around the quilt, fold in half lengthways. Keeping all raw edges aligned stitch the binding to the top and bottom of the quilt then to the sides. Fold over to the back and hand stitch in place.

- Note
- All fabrics should be washed & pressed. ¼” seam allowance used throughout unless otherwise indicated. Read all instructions carefully before commencing the quilt.
