Stitched & beaded pendant
By Spotlight
- Inspired by ‘indie’ streetwear, we combine embroidery stitch & beading to create this distinctive accessory.
- Final Result

- Materials
- • plastic canvas - 14 count
• DMC cotton perle thread in colours of choice
• DMC gold stranded metallic thread
• co-ordinating seed beads
• beading needle & thread
• tapestry needle
• paper (graph paper optional)
• pencil
• coloured pencils
• ribbon
• 2 glass beads
• small sharp pointed scissors - Step 1
- Draw out your design on graph paper or rule up a grid and draw the design. Select pencils in colours similar to the colours of the chosen threads and colour in the design.

- Step 2
- Using the drawing as a guide, and starting in the middle with a straight stitch and a double thread, begin stitching the design. Continue stitching, changing colours as you go.
To disguise the spaces in the design sew on some seed beads catching the thread through the perle stitches as the plastic canvas is difficult to stitch through with the fine beading needle.
- Step 3
- Once the main stitching is completed use the metallic stranded thread to work back stitch all around the outer edge including a loop at the top in the centre to attach the ribbon. Carefully cut out the design close to the stitching and the centre of the loop with small pointed scissors. Thread a ribbon through the loop created at the top, thread on two glass beads, one each side, and tie at the back.

- Handy Hint
- Try different shapes, and choose colours to match a special outfit.
