By Spotlight
- A Get Creative reader’s project by Catherine Gallagher.
Catherine has lots of friends whose daughters do ballet and, whilst shopping at Spotlight’s Bondi Junction store, she saw this fabric & was inspired to “do something different”. - Final Result

- Materials
- • blank canvas 25cm x 30 cm
• scraps of fabric - pink ‘Ballet’ (furnishing fabric)
• 8cm x 30cm tulle
• craft smart fray stop
• 20cm x 3mm satin ribbon
• 1.5cm x 7mm satin ribbon
• poster paint - pink
• sponge & paint palette
• glitter glue/glitter marker - silver
• craft glue
• needle & thread
• sharp scissors
• tape measure
• staple gun - Step 1
- Place pink paint on palette and with damp sponge apply paint to canvas a little at a time. Cut out dress and shoes then apply fray stop to cut edges. Fold tulle in half and gather at top to make waist.
- Step 2
- Stitch the gathered edge of tulle to the wrong side of the cut out dress at the waist. Make a bow with the 3mm satin ribbon and stitch the dress, tulle and bow to the canvas with a couple of hand stitches. Secure at the back of the canvas approximately 1cm from the top of the canvas.

- Step 3
- Use the 7mm ribbon to form a border around the canvas and staple in place at the back. Cut out a pair of ballet shoes and glue in place. Using the glitter glue paint in the legs and coat hanger.
- Handy Hint
- Use any colour to suit your décor and for a personal touch add the recipient’s name to the art work.
