Final Result

Materials

• 30cm x 112cm green printed cotton fabric
• scrap of white felt
• 2 x 12mm black buttons
• 4 x 20mm yellow buttons
• red embroidery thread or stranded cotton
• 70cm x 10mm yellow ribbon
• hobby fill
• hand needle
• sewing thread
• scissors
• pins
• fabric pencil (optional)
• sewing machine
• iron

Step 1

Using pattern provided below, cut out 2 x body pieces, 4 x arms and 4 x back legs out from green printed cotton fabric.

Body
With right sides together, pin and sew body pieces together using a 1cm seam allowance, leaving approximately 6-8cm open at base for turning through. Mitre both bottom corners of body so stitching is about 3cm long. Trim and clip all seams. Turn right side out and press. Begin stuffing the body, lightly at the top around eyes, fuller in the face part and quite firmly through rest of body.Hand sew opening closed.

Step 2

Face
Using the pattern cut 2 x semi circles from white felt scrap.Pin in place at the top of the body over eye area. Secure felt by attaching buttons as the eyes sewing through the whole thickness of body pulling tight, then tying thread off under each button. Using fabric pencil or pins mark smile shape on face of body. Hand stitch with red embroidery thread using a neat even length back stitch.

Step 3

Back legs
With right sides together, pin two of the back leg pieces together. Sew together using a 1cm seam allowance leaving approximately 5cm open at the back of top of leg for turning through. Trim and clip all seams. Turn right side out and press. Begin stuffing back leg, lightly in foot and more firmly through rest of leg. Hand sew opening closed. Machine top stitch toes on foot as per pattern. Repeat to make other back leg.

Step 4

Front legs
With right sides together, pin two of the front leg pieces together. Sew together using a 1cm seam allowance leaving approximately 5cm open at the back of top of leg for turning through. Trim and clip all seams. Turn right side out and press. Begin stuffing front leg, lightly in hand and more firmly through rest of arm. Hand sew opening closed. Machine topstitch fingers on leg as per pattern. Repeat to make other front leg.

Step 5

Attaching limbs to body
Attach each back leg to the body by sewing through a yellow button tightly on each side over the seam line 3cm up from bottom edge. Tie off thread under button. Attach each front leg the same way as the back legs using a yellow button, placing the front legs above the back legs, so that the top of the front leg sits just under the cheeks of the face. Sit frog on a flat surface and slightly adjust the stuffing in the legs so they are angled slightly outwards and the feet sit almost flat.
