Bamboo baby overalls

Embrace ‘green’ trends when you use this innovative fibre, made by processing the bamboo grass stalk & combing the fibre strands from the actual plant itself.

Materials

• 2 x 50g balls ‘Bella Baby’ Layette
• 1 pair 4.5mm knitting needles
• stitch holders
• 8 x 10mm mother of pearl buttons
• scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

Step 1

Front
Starting with one leg, use 4.5mm needles to cast on 24 (26, 28, 30) sts and work 10 rows garter st.
Change to stocking st, cont until work measures 10 (13, 16, 19)cm. Place all sts on stitch holder. Work second leg in the same way then place all sts on one needle, inc with 1 st in middle for 49 (53, 57, 61) sts.

Cont in stocking st work 2 rows. Beg dec on ea side of centre st every 2 rows.
Dec 1: K23 (25, 27, 29), ss/k/psso, K23 (25, 27, 29) [47 (51, 55, 59) sts].
Work 1 row. Dec 2: K22 (24, 26, 28), ss/k/psso, K22 (24, 26, 28).
Work 1 row. Dec 3: K21 (23, 25, 27), ss/k/psso, K21 (23, 25, 27) [43 (47, 51, 55) sts].
Work 20 rows stocking st.
Work 10 rows garter st.
Work 6 rows stocking st.
Work 10 rows garter st. Work 6 rows stocking st.

Step 2

Armhole shaping
Work in garter st, casting off at ea end of next and foll alt rows as follows: 3sts once, 2sts once, 1 st once (twice, twice, 3 times) [31 (33, 37, 39) sts].

Step 3

Neck shaping
When work measures 32.5 (38, 43.5, 49)cm cast off centre 13 (15, 17, 19) sts and cont ea side separately.

Step 4

Buttonholes
When work measures 36 (42, 48, 54)cm make 2 one-st buttonholes on the strap (K2tog, yon) and at 31 (43, 49, 55)cm cast off 9 (9, 10, 10) sts.

Step 5

Back
Work as for front casting off for neck shaping at 37 (43, 49, 55)cm. Cont ea side separately. Cast off straps at 39 (45, 51, 57)cm.

Step 6

Finishing
With right sides facing sew side seams. Sew inside leg seam leaving one leg open. Using 4.5mm needle, knit up 55 (71, 77, 83) sts along the front edge of open leg.
Cast off on the return row making 4 buttonhole loops.
Sew 4 buttons on inside of leg and 2 on each strap.
