Materials

• 14 x 100g balls Premium Marvel 8ply acrylic - 6 white, 4 denim, 4 navy
• 10mm crochet hook
• scissors, yarn needle

Step 1

Note: This afghan is worked using 2 strands of yarn at once. To create the marbled effect when changing colours you work 1 strand of each colour together, before working 2 strands of the next colour.
Foundation row: Using 2 strands of white, work 142 ch.
Row 1: 1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in ea of next 140 sts. Turn.
Row 2: 1ch, 1dc into each st, to end. Turn.
Row 3: Working with 1 strand ea of white & denim, 1dc, 1ch in 1st st, 1htr in next st, * 1ch, skip next st, 1htr in ea of next 3 sts, rep from * to last 3 sts, 1 ch, skip 1 st, 1dc in ea of last 2 sts. Turn.
Row 4: 1dc, 1ch in 1st st, 1htr in ea of next 3 sts, * 1ch, skip next st, 1htr in ea of next 3 sts, rep from * to last 5 sts, 1 ch, skip 1 st, 1 dc into last 4 sts. Turn.
Row 5: Working with 2 strands denim, 1dc, 1ch in 1st st, 1tr in next st, * 1 x-st over next 2 sts, rep from * to last st, 1tr in turning ch. Turn.
Row 6: 1dc, 1ch in 1st st, 1tr in next st, * 1 x-st over next 2 sts, rep from * to last st, 1tr in turning ch. Turn.
Row 7: Repeat row 6.
Row 8 & 9: Repeat rows 3 & 4.
Row 10: Working with 2 strands of white, 1ch, 1dc in ea st to end working last dc in turning ch. Turn.
Row 11: 1ch, 1dc in next st, 1dc in ea st to end working last dc in turning ch. Turn.
Row 12: Repeat row 11.
Rows 2 - 12 form the stripe pattern.

Continue working in pattern, alternating the denim and navy stripes until there are 4 stripes of each colour, remembering to work only 2 rows of dc in white at the end. Work a row of crab st down each side along the length of the afghan.

To finish off and eliminate the need to sew in all the ends, tie a row of mixed coloured fringing along each end of the afghan, incorporating the ends into the fringing.
