Step 1
Paint the pages of the board book using cream acrylic paint to ensure the book has a finished look.

Cut scrapbook papers slightly smaller than the pages of the book. Round any corners that need to be rounded. Don’t affix any of the papers to the book until you have planned not only that page but also the one on the other side of that board. You will want to cover any brads or things that attach through the book with the paper on the other side of the page.
Step 2
Here’s how we decorated our book.

Page 1 - cover
Trim a strip of lined paper, tear one edge and affix across the book at an angle. Paint chipboard letters to match the paper used on the cover of the book. Cover with dimensional adhesive and, when dry, attach to the book. Wire the alphabet beads onto a piece of beading wire and affix through the cover of the book. Complete the cover with rub on letters and a door lock.
Step 3
Page 2
Wrap metal tape around the metal sheet to protect the edges. Punch holes in the metal and affix to the scrapbook paper using brads. Print a series of daily reminders one per line onto a sheet of transparency paper and cut each item into a long strip. Attach some reminders to the metal using magnetic jewellery clasps. Affix a small envelope to the page and place the additional reminders inside it. Finish the page with rub on letters. This page is adhered to the front page using a piece of quilt batting as padding to provide a dimensional feel.
Step 4
Page 3
Cut a clear plastic packet to make a small pocket and affix to the page. Apply rub on letters for the days of the week and the page title. Add a piece of ribbon and a flower accent.

Print a calendar page for each month of the year onto a transparency. Tuck one month inside the pocket you have made and place the remaining transparencies inside the plastic envelope on page 9.
Step 5
Page 4
Apply flourish rub ons to the page. Cut a crown shape freehand and adhere to the page. Add adhesive rhinestones to decorate. Affix a mirror to the page and rub on letters to spell “believe” on the mirror surface.
Step 6
Page 5
Paint the plywood with two coats of blackboard paint. Cut the balsa wood trimming to make a frame for the chalkboard and glue the frame edges to the chalkboard. Affix the chalkboard to the page. Drill a small hole through a piece of chalk, loop a thin chain through it and close the loop with a jump ring. Attach the chain to the page and hang the jump ring loop from a clothing hook which is fixed to the page with loops of wire.
Step 7
Page 6
Affix a length of ribbon to the back of a file folder and adhere the file folder to the page. Tie the ribbon into a bow and finish the page with rub on letters.
Step 8
Page 7
Attach two picture hooks to the page using two rhinestone brads. Apply rub on letters to the page and hang photos from the hooks.
Step 9
Page 8
Affix two large brads at the top outer edges of the page. Thread some mini clothes pegs onto a piece of string. Wrap the string around the brads to secure. Print your goals for the year, one per line, on a sheet of cardstock. Cut into long strips and hang from the clothes pegs. Create a page title on a sheet of transparency and affix to the page. Finish with rub on letters.
Step 10
Page 9
Use a discarded plastic sleeve to fashion a pocket. Affix the pocket to the page. Place a sheet of cardstock inside the pocket, attached to the top edge. Punch a small circle from the top edge. Add rub on letters and a multi-layer flower. Place spare calendar transparencies in this pocket.
Step 11
Page 10
Stamp a box onto the page. Handwrite journalling into the box. Affix a faux Polaroid photograph with handwritten journalling to the book.

To assemble the book, glue down any pages which are not yet affixed to the board pages. Assemble the pages in order and join using 2 or 3 large book rings.
Handy Hint
This book makes a good resource for techniques that you can use in other mini books such as a chalkboard, magnet board and ways to hang things and store things on your pages. It’s also a lot of fun to use because it is interactive. There are plenty of things to move around and play with so it is the kind of book that you can sit on your desk and use every day.
