    • Making granny squares always reminds me of my maternal grandmother.
On my weekly visits to her as a child, she was always crocheting granny squares to make into knee rugs for the old peoples home my uncle worked at. If it wasn't that, when there was a new baby due in the family, she would make a granny square cot blanket for the new arrival. My brother (now in his late 60's) STILL has the one she made for him - it's had a few running repairs since, mind you!

    • Yes, I too can remember my grandmother making these blankets and I still have two she made, if I only had taken more notice. My grandmother tried on a number of occassions to teach me, but being left handed apparently made it difficult for her to teach me. Is there any instruction books for people new to crochet as now I would really like to learn, by starting of with these blankets and would like to make one for each of my grandchildren. Hope someone can help, many thanks.

    • Hi joyzee.

You Tube has some instructional videos for left-handed crochet. I just found one now and she is making granny squares of all things! It runs for about 33 minutes. Type 'left handed crochet" in the search box and away you go!

      All the best!
