    • Hi, I just joined and read your quandry!  I haven't hand quilted yet, but I know you are supposed to go through all 3 layers.  Some people use a hoop to hold the quilt tight while they hand quilt.  If you google search 'hand quilting' you will find some youtube videos that may help you.  Have fun.

    • Hi,just joined.I have been quilting for awhile, and yes as the lady above says. You go through all 3 layers,a knot in the thread pulled through into the wadding and use a hoop as this keeps the fabrics & wadding tighter and a better finish.Hoping this helps.

    • Hi Michelle, I've just joined this group and noticed your question. Yes you stitch through all 3 layers. Using a hoop with one hand on top and the other underneath guiding your needle is the best way. This will keep your stitching in a straight line. The hoop keeps the tension the same and means the fabrics won't move. You should baste the 3 layers before quilting too. I find it theraputic sitting in front of the TV especially in winter when the quilt keeps you warm as your quilting it. Hope this helps.
