Blog post: General crafty tips

Posted by: Spotlight on Aug. 5, 2009

From Lisa Johns:

• Look at what you already have. Recently I found six reels of black cotton stashed at the back of a cupboard. Be a crafty stocktaker.

• Keep your eyes open at op shops and community markets. Buy only for projects you have in mind for the next six months.

• Keep an eye out for wool at bargain shops and keep an open mind about what you’re buying; sometimes you might have to find the pattern to suit the wool.

• Hit the library for books and patterns.

• Don’t forget the web. There are patterns and projects in abundance. Recently I needed a rhubarb crumble recipe and I put a request on my blog site and had one cooking in the oven within hours.  Similarly I found a recipe for a chocolate zucchini cake on a Melbourne woman’s site and used it to enter a competition that I won. I emailed her and she posted a photo of me holding the trophy on her site, calling me her ‘winning reader’.
