Although I am a newby to quilting and only have one lap quilt to my name, I decided to attempt the Log Cabin Treasures (pattern bought from -PatternsCentral.com) that caught my eye.  Image 1 is a side view of the quilt, showing the edges, applique leaves and general view.  My large log cabin blocks are 12 x 12" and the smaller ones, 3 x 3".
My first task was to complete the 36 large blocks and I am almost finished with the small blocks. 
I have drawn all the leaves onto Easy Fix and am also in the process of putting fabric to that - may need some guidance when I get to the ironing part!
My husband has promised to make me a light box - now I am waiting because I want to do the centre panel.  The centre panel in the original pattern consists of a cabin and lake scene with mountains in the background but I am going to be doing bamboo poles with some leaves.  The poles will be in a dark and lighter colour with the leaves in light green (I have a LOT of green in this quilt and do not want it to become too much of a dominant colour.
Although the leaf applique in the pattern appears to be oak leaves, I have kept this because in the main fabric, there are similar leaves.
I have a queen-size bed and, by luck, this pattern was for a queen-sized quilt!  Bargain.
I now know what measuring, cutting, pressing and 1/4" seam are all about as I have been doing this for almost a month!  I look forward to learning more about quilting as I make progress.
