I am a new blogger. I like to learn new crafts and I find my local
Spotlight in Geelong wonderful and the staff so helpful.
I am submitting my first ever quilt for my grand-daughter Aisha. I am
very proud of it and will make more as I enjoyed making it.

- HI Phillippa. I think your quilt looks great! I'm sure your grand daughter loved it. Did you teach yourself or go to classes. I've almost finished a cot quilt which I found quite easy to do, but it was just one piece of material - a quilt length from Spotlight. I'd like to do the real thing, like you've done, but wonder how to start. I know you have to pre-wash all fabrics etc, but did you use a pattern as a guide? Can you recommend a good one for 'learners'? I've been sewing for many yrs, but never tackled a quilt. I admire the work of others. I make most of my own clothes, curtains, clothes for kids and now grand kids, but quilting has always attracted me.
  Do you think it's necessary to have a walking foot? I have a Husqvarna machine(not the expensive embroidery ones, sadly) and the walking foot is pretty expensive - last time I enquired, about $80. I shudder to think what it's worth now! I'm on a pension!
